Let's start with some context: over the many years of Third Coast Conferences, Filmless Festivals and The Fest, many of you have trekked across states and oceans to arrive — a journey that, to say the least, hasn't always been accessible to everyone. Between flights, hotels, and registration fees, our time together tends to carry a hefty price tag, not to mention the days away from work. Some of you, reading this, have never been able to attend for all of these reasons—and we’ve been working hard to change that.

Third Coast is a small non-profit with a generous community that holds it together. And this year, we’re going through an evolution that’s been building for many years: to transform and disrupt the audio industry, and to de-center the status quo. In 2020, this means shifting our Conference venue from a costly hotel to a virtual world. And so, while we're sad not to be meeting in person this year, we're thrilled to introduce radically more accessible pricing that better aligns with Third Coast’s strengthened and evolving values, and supports our tiny team struggling to stay afloat.

We want everyone to feel invited to our programs, regardless of ability to pay a heady ticket price. So we've created a new pricing philosophy, one that is community-conscious, responsive, and honors the needs of our audiences. In a collective pricing model, we invite our community to consider what they’re able to offer alongside what others need. This way, we all arrive more equitably, together.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW COLLECTIVE PRICING MODEL

With the worldwide community of audio makers in mind, we’re offering registration to Third Place using a pay-what-you-can model, rather than a single registration fee. These sliding-scale tickets ($25-$495) will get you access to nearly everything our virtual Third Place world has to offer: experimental live performances and skill-building sessions by the most inspiring folks in the industry; community meetups to build solidarity and support; curated collections from shows and makers you've never heard; plus resources, creative prompts, career networking, access to our Sunday festivals, and much more.

We’re also selling individual tickets for a handful of live events in the Third Place universe for fans and appreciators of the medium, as well as folks who are still exploring the industry or are curious about audio storytelling. At Third Place, this includes our Main Stage performances, and two half-day events, inspired by The Fest & our Filmless Festivals. You don’t have to buy an all-access Third Place registration to attend these events; tickets are available to purchase individually by any and all audio appreciators. Main Stage tickets start at $12; Sunday festivals start at $25. Main Stage tickets & Mini-Fest tickets on sale now.

PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN REGISTRATION FOR MAKERS
LOW-COST INDIVIDUAL TICKETS FOR APPRECIATORS & DABBLERS

We believe collective pricing is a powerful vehicle for equity. We know that many of you are deeply committed to accessibility in the audio industry. As we prepare to unveil ticket sales on Monday, October 5, we invite you to think about how you value a Third Coast experience in 2020 — and to consider paying what you can, and paying more if you’re able.

With a collective pricing model, each of you, regardless of your level of contribution, is a vital member of this audio community. We encourage you to think of your entry to Third Place as an act of radical industry-building. If you can give more, please do — it literally gets more people in the room, makes it possible for Third Coast to survive, and will bring real change to this field.

Let's light this path forward together. Registration on sale now.
